Chiropractic care during Pregnancy

Chiropractic care is very beneficial during pregnancy. Not only does it allow for the mother to feel her best throughout the entire process but by balancing the nervous system, relieving stress, improving pelvic alignment and decreasing any tightness in the pelvic muscles/ligaments, studies have shown that chiropractic care during pregnancy leads to faster and easier deliveries.  It is important to begin care early in your pregnancy to address structural/neurological imbalance BEFORE the stress of the weight of the baby begins to affect your body.  If there is a faulty foundation to begin with (even if you FEEL fine), the added stress from altered body weight will only increase the problem.  Some reasons moms-to-be contact our office include:

  • Breech presentation

  • Headaches

  • Low back pain

  • Pelvic pain

  • Sciatica

  • Round/Uterine ligament pain

  • The desire for a balanced nervous system

Dr. Micaela O'Connor is certified in the Webster's Technique which addresses misalignments in the pelvis of pregnant women, as well as ligamentous soft tissue work with the uterus, to enable an optimal environment for fetal positioning.

Over the course of pregnancy, expectant mothers' weight gain will reach somewhere between 30 and 40 pounds. As the bulk weight of the baby is deposited in the mother's abdominal area, her center of gravity shifts forward. In order to compensate, the natural curves of the spine exaggerate causing low back pain.

Receiving chiropractic adjustments during your pregnancy can help ensure that the expectant mother's pelvic bones are properly aligned, facilitating a quicker, easier delivery.

In one study, women receiving chiropractic care through their first pregnancy had 24% shorter labor times than the group not receiving chiropractic care.

Chiropractic Care for Children

"It's easier to raise healthy kids than to fix sick adults"

In addition to taking several specialized pediatric courses throughout her education, Dr. Micaela is currently undergoing the 180 Hour Certification Program (C.A.C.C.P.), the with the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) and trains regularly with a group of some of the top pediatric chiropractors in the world!

People may ask "Why does my child need chiropractic care? They aren't in any pain."

Almost all adults spinal problems begin during childhood.  From the birthing process, to learning to walk, the spine takes on a lot of force from day one.  As the child grows up, they play sports, fall off bikes, sleep on anything but beds, etc., going through a typical, normal childhood.  These minor disturbances to their spines add up slowly over time to cause problems, either as a child or adult.

Our office focuses on how spinal misalignments can not only cause you pain and discomfort, but can affect how well your body is FUNCTIONING.  Chiropractic care can help children suffering with:

  • Colic

  • Asthma

  • Allergies

  • ADHD/Autism/SPD

  • Bedwetting

  • Digestive Trouble

  • Constipation

Chiropractic care for children is gentle and very little to no force is needed compared to adults.
